Mercedes-Benz do Brasil received an order for delivery of 550 trucks to Casas Bahia, Brazil’s leading retail company for home appliances, electrical and electronic devices. The lion’s share of the order covers 380 units of the Mercedes-Benz Accelo 915 C light truck. Delivered also will be 148 FPN 1718 semi-heavy cab-over-engine models, and 13 units of the 710 short-hood truck. In addition, the order will include nine Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans.
All vehicles, if everything goes according to plan, will be delivered by June 2010. This new order is second largest placed with Mercedes-Benz do Brasil by Casas Bahia, Brazil’s leading retail supplier of home appliances, electrical and electronic devices, and furniture. Bahia previously purchased 1,050 Mercedes-Benz trucks in 2008.

Mercedes-Benz has agreed t collaborate with Build Your Dreams (BYD) in order to develop electric vehicles intended for the Chinese market. BYD is starting to get quite a reputation for electric vehicle technologies. Before BYD made cars, it had produced batteries. Mercedes-Benz is believed to be eager to gain local knowledge in China. Under the agreement struck between Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler and BYD, the two firms will create a new brand to sell a ehicle designed for the Chinese market.
Mercedes-Benz, chief Dr Dieter Zetsche said that he considers the coming together of Daimler and BYD has expertise in battery technology and e-drive systems. Chairman of BYD, Wang Chuafu, showed much excitement about working with Daimler. The agreement is set to develop a technology center in China. So far, it has not been announced when the facility is expected to be completed or when the launch will take place.

Mercedes-Benz is saying goodbye to its naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 that powered an array of AMG models over the years for its newly developed AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine, which boasts way more power but is also more fuel efficient.
